Driving Test Tips:

  • Make sure you have all the documentation for the day of your driving test.
  • Arrive in plenty of time for the test, try to be sitting in the waiting room 10 to 15 minutes before your time.
  • If you make a mistake while out on the test try not to worry about it. It may not be as bad as you think. You could still be on the way to getting your full licence.
  • The tester is looking for a SAFE, CONFIDENT, COMFORTABLE drive. We all make mistakes at the end of the day unless you do something major or continue to carry out a fault or faults you'll be fine.
  • Make sure your vehicle is good roadworthy condition. Your lights are all working especially brake lights and indicators and engine levels are all topped up too.
  • Make sure you have L plates on your car and that they have the proper legal white border on them.
  • Make sure your vehicle is clean, especially that you can see clearly out of all your windows.
  • Check that your car has the proper and valid Tax and Insurance disc. If the vehicle requires a valid NCT make sure you display it.
  • Insure that the tyres on your car are of the legal requirement 1.6 mm and that the wall of the tyre is in good condition too.

Myths:

You will hear at lot of stories regarding the driving test.
Some of them include the following:

You are more likely to pass your test in a driving school car rather than your own car.
NOT TRUE.

The last test on a Friday people never pass their tests as the tester is always in a bad mood or is tired and is waiting to go home.
NOT TRUE.

The tester has a certain amount of people he must pass and fail each day.
NOT TRUE.

If you do your test in a high performance car you are more likely to fail your test.
NOT TRUE.

When it all boils down to it the tester is not trying to catch you out or deliberately fail you. They will obviously know that you will be nervous and will try to make you feel at ease and relaxed. They would rather see you pass the test then fail it.
